Brazil, China both seek a win at Japan Dome

Mar 4, 2013 - 7:07 PM (Sports Network) - Pride will be on the line Tuesday at the World Baseball Classic, as Brazil and China each try to close out their Pool A slate with a victory at the Yahoo! Japan Dome.

Neither team will be advancing past pool play and both are searching for their first win of the tournament.

Brazil gave Japan a scare in its opening contest, but was far less impressive in its next matchup against Cuba, as it fell, 5-2.

Andre Rienzo (0-1) made the start for Brazil and gave up two runs on one hit and four walks over 4 2/3 innings. Daniel Matsumoto went 2-for-4 and registered the lone RBI for Brazil, which opened the WBC with a 5-3 loss to Japan.

China, meanwhile, also started its WBC run with a loss to Japan before it was absolutely crushed by Cuba, 12-0, in a game that was stopped after seven innings for the mercy rule.

Xin Li (0-1) was roughed up for five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Japan and Cuba have both advanced to the second round out of Pool A.
