Nolan leads Shock to second straight win vs. Sky

Jul 13, 2007 - 3:08 AM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Deanna Nolan scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Detroit Shock posted a 78-65 victory over the Chicago Sky on Thursday.

Reserve Plenette Pierson scored 16 points and Katie Smith, Swin Cash and Cheryl Ford each added 11 for Detroit (14-5), which beat Chicago for the second straight time. The Shock defeated the Sky, 92-84, on Tuesday and are now 6-0 all-time against the second-year franchise.

It also was the second consecutive game in which Detroit had five players score in double digits.

The Sky built an 18-11 lead after one quarter, but Nolan - who connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor and 2-of-2 from 3-point range - made a shot from the arc to tie the game at 28-28 with six minutes left in the first half. With 2:40 remaining in the second period, Nolan made a jumper to put Detroit ahead, 36-35, a lead the Shock would not relinquish.

Detroit, which shot 48 percent (29-of-61), outscored Chicago by 17 points over the second and third quarters.

Jia Perkins scored 17 points and Candice Dupree added 16 and six rebounds for the Sky (8-12), who shot just 34 percent (24-of-70). Chicago has lost four straight games and seven of nine.
