Duda and Mets take out Diamondbacks

Apr 15, 2014 - 6:13 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Lucas Duda tied a career-high with four hits and also drove in two runs to help the New York Mets to a 7-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first matchup of a three-game set.

David Wright also had two RBI and Curtis Granderson drove in a run before leaving the game in the sixth inning after a collision with the right-field wall.

Miguel Montero opened the scoring in the first with a deep drive to right field. Granderson made an attempt for the ball and did catch it until colliding into the fence in right.

Montero was awarded a double on the play and Granderson grimaced in pain, but he did stay in the game until being replaced by Andrew Brown in the sixth.

"Granderson's entire left side is pretty sore," said Mets manager Terry Collins. "He's day-to-day right now. One guy thought he hurt his wrist, I thought he hurt his knee and even his ribs are sore."

Mets starter Zack Wheeler (1-2) earned his first victory of the season after hurling 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. New York has won two of its last three.

"This game, we talk about it so many times, it's about feeling good about yourself," said Collins. "He (Wheeler) should feel very good about himself tonight."

Montero went 3-for-3 and knocked in all three runs for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four straight.

Josh Collmenter (0-1), who made his first start of the season for Arizona, pitched four innings and allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts before giving way to Mike Bolsinger.

Bolsinger made his major league debut and went three innings, allowing two runs with three strikeouts.

"They swung the bats well," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said of the Mets. "Things aren't coming easy for us. We're not in sync at all. When you're in a streak the way we're in a streak, it does affect guys."

New York got on the board in the top of the second with an RBI groundout from Ruben Tejada. The Mets added more in the next inning with an RBI groundout from Wright and a run-scoring single from Duda.

Montero cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly.

Granderson's single in the fifth brought home Daniel Murphy and Duda followed with a single that scored Wright. Murphy added a sac fly in the eighth before Wright laced a single that scored Eric Young to make it a 7-2 game.

Montero collected his third hit of the night with an RBI single in the eighth for the final margin.

Carlos Torres pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for New York and picked up his first save of the season.
