Giants complete sweep, run home win streak to 9
Sep 12, 2014 - 4:21 AM San Francisco, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hunter Pence knocked in two runs, Buster Posey collected three hits with an RBI and the San Francisco Giants completed a three-game sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 6-2 victory on Thursday.Angel Pagan had two hits with a walk and scored twice for the Giants, who have won a season-best nine games in a row at home and 12 of their last 15 games overall.
San Francisco will remain at AT&T Park for a crucial weekend set against Los Angeles. The Giants are two games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers.
"It's going to be exciting baseball. We're playing a very, very good team," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "There's going to be a lot of excitement, intensity out there."
Mark Trumbo and Jake Lamb both drove in a run for Arizona, which matched a season high with a sixth straight loss.
Diamondbacks starter Randall Delgado (3-4) gave up a run in three of the four innings he pitched.
Pagan doubled down the right-field line to open the bottom of the first and scored on Pence's unconventional two-out single. Pence threw his bat at an 0-2 pitch, sending a grounder up the middle that ricocheted off second base.
"That was an unfortunate first inning," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "Not a lot you can do about that."
Pablo Sandoval plated Pagan with a two-out single in the third, and Brandon Crawford singled home Gregor Blanco in the fourth to make it 3-0.
San Francisco starter Jake Peavy (5-4) tossed five scoreless innings before Cliff Pennington tripled and scored on Trumbo's double in the sixth. Peavy allowed six hits and struck out eight with no walks in 5 2/3 innings.
In the home sixth, the Giants put up a three-spot against Matt Stites. Juan Perez hit an RBI double, Posey had a run-producing single and Pence drew a bases-loaded walk.
Lamb homered off Santiago Casilla in the ninth.
Game Notes
The Giants last won nine straight home games May 6-22, 2011. Their last home sweep of the D-backs also came during that streak from May 10-12 ... Arizona starting pitchers have allowed three or fewer runs in 14 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in club history.
