Final/10
Davis powers O's past Mariners in extras
Jul 26, 2014 - 6:48 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Davis' leadoff home run in the 10th inning gave the Baltimore Orioles a 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners in the second of a four-game set.Nelson Cruz's solo homer was the only other run for the Orioles, who have won four of their last five.
Kevin Gausman allowed a run on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Darren O'Day (3-1) got the win for retiring the final two batters of the ninth inning.
Kendrys Morales drove in the lone run of the game for the Mariners, who have dropped their last four contests. Felix Hernandez tossed seven innings in the start and gave up a run on five hits with 10 strikeouts.
"It's all about winning, my wins don't matter to me," said Hernandez. "I'm just trying to make pitches out there and do my best."
Davis drove a 1-2 slider from Charlie Furbush (1-5) over the wall in right for his 17th home run of the season and a 2-1 lead.
"A lot of times if you have a rough game and you come up in a big spot later on, you can kind of redeem yourself," Davis said. "Any time I get an opportunity to pick these guys up, I try to do that. They've been picking me up all year."
Zach Britton then tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th for his 19th save of the season. On the final play, Robinson Cano hit a grounder back to the mound and Britton tossed it to first. Cano was initially ruled safe as it appeared that Davis was pulled off the bag to catch the throw, but replay overturned the call for the final out of the game.
Cruz's home run to leadoff the second was the only run of the game until the Mariners tied the game in the sixth.
Cano led off the frame with a long fly ball to right that went off the glove of Nick Markakis and Cano wound up at third. The next pitch saw Kendrys Morales line the ball to right, with Cano just beating Markakis' throw home on the sacrifice fly to tie the game.
