Dickerson, Rockies beat Marlins in 13

Aug 24, 2014 - 6:05 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Dickerson tied the game with a solo homer in the ninth inning and won it with a walk-off single in the 13th, giving the Colorado Rockies a 5-4 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

Nolan Arenado doubled off the left-field wall to start the 13th and Dickerson singled through the right side off Sam Dyson (2-1) two pitches later.

An inning earlier, Colorado had runners at the corners when Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria made a diving over-the-shoulder catch on Justin Morneau's humpback liner in shallow left-center to end the inning.

Earlier, Hechavarria gave the Marlins the lead in the top of the ninth inning by hitting the third consecutive single off LaTroy Hawkins to make it 4-3.

Dickerson had four hits, including his third-deck blast to right field in the bottom of the ninth off Marlins closer Steve Cishek on a 3-1 sinker with one out.

"That was one of the longest ones I've seen here," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said of the homer. "He can hit it. It's been well-documented."

The Rockies used eight pitchers after Jordan Lyles came out in the sixth. Matt Belisle (4-6) pitched the top of the 13th for the win and Brandon Barnes hit a two-run homer for the Rockies.

The Marlins, who won the opener of the three-game series, got seven innings from Tom Koehler.

"We had some chances. We left a bunch of guys on base throughout the whole game," said Marlins manager Mike Redmond.

Lyles hit Christian Yelich with a pitch leading off the third inning and Giancarlo Stanton sliced a one-out RBI double to shallow right field to open the scoring for Miami.

The Rockies took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, the last two on Barnes' seventh homer of the season, which just cleared the wall in left.

Donovan Solano drew a bases-loaded walk off Lyles in the fourth inning to make it a one-run game and the Marlins tied it in the fifth after Marcell Ozuna walked with two outs and scored on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's double to the left- field wall.
