Koehler goes after a third straight win at Coors

Aug 23, 2014 - 1:23 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Koehler eyes a third straight win on Saturday when the Miami Marlins continue a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Koehler evened his record at 9-9 on Sunday against Arizona, as he allowed a pair of runs and six hits in six innings to lower his ERA to 3.82. Koehler worked out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning then retired 11 of the next 12 batters before giving up two runs in the sixth.

He also struck out seven batters and walked two.

"He got a little wild, but he got back together," Miami manager Mike Redmond said. "Chuck went out there, settled him down. ... He had some really nice innings. In the sixth inning, he kind of just ran out of gas."

Koehler has faced the Rockies just twice and is 1-0 against them with a 1.29 ERA.

Colorado, meanwhile, will counter with righty Jordan Lyles, who is 6-1 with a 4.01 ERA. Lyles did not get a decision on Sunday against Cincinnati and did not pitch well, as he surrendered five runs in five innings of his team's 10-9 win.

Lyles has split two starts with the Marlins and has pitched to a 7.36 ERA in those outings.

Miami continued to roll in Friday's opener, as Marcell Ozuna had three hits and knocked in five runs, the last four on a grand slam in the ninth inning that punctuated the Marlins' 13-5 win.

Giancarlo Stanton added three hits, three RBI and three runs scored for the Marlins, who have won four of their last five.

"When we play together, we win more games and do a better job," said Ozuna.

Henderson Alvarez (10-5) picked up his fourth straight win despite allowing 10 hits and four runs in six innings. The right-hander struck out five, walked none and helped himself with a sacrifice fly to score a run.

Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson each hit a two-run homer for the Rockies, who have lost two of three. Franklin Morales (5-7) was knocked around for six runs on eight hits without escaping the fifth inning.

Morales walked two batters and Rockies pitchers issued nine free passes in the game.

"Certainly we didn't have good command tonight," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss.

Miami took three of four from the Rockies to start the season.
