Miller's triple helps M's beat Astros

Sep 9, 2014 - 7:44 AM Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Brad Miller hit a two-run triple in the eighth inning to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-1 win over the Houston Astros to open a three-game set.

Miller finished with three RBI while Austin Jackson added an RBI in the win for the Mariners, who have won six of their last seven games.

Felix Hernandez tossed six scoreless innings and gave up five hits and four walks while striking out eight. Danny Farquhar (3-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win.

"Felix battled all night," said Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon.

Jose Altuve drove in the only run of the game for the Astros, who came into the contest having been victorious in six of their previous seven games.

Brad Peacock allowed just four hits and a pair of walks while striking out six in five innings. Michael Foltynewicz (0-1) walked the only batter he faced in the eighth inning to take the loss.

"Threw a lot of pitches, but those guys over there had some good (at-bats), fouled some pitches off and got my pitch count up," Peacock said. "Felt good the whole game and just tried to battle out there."

Mike Zunino walked to start the eighth and was replaced on base by James Jones, who stole second before Michael Saunders walked. Jones then stole third and Miller hit a ball to the wall in right-center for a triple and the lead. Jackson followed with an RBI single for a 4-1 lead.

Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his MLB-leading 44th save of the season.

The game stayed scoreless until the sixth as Logan Morrison walked with one out and moved to second two batters later on a Saunders walk. Miller then punched a single to right-center for a 1-0 lead.

Houston, though, answered in the seventh as Robbie Grossman tripled and came home when Altuve followed with a sac fly.
