Mets complete sweep of Marlins for eighth straight win

Apr 19, 2015 - 10:15 PM Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ruben Tejada hit a three-run double as part of a seven-run fourth inning, and the New York Mets hung on for their eighth win in a row with a 7-6 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Juan Lagares, Travis d'Arnaud, Daniel Murphy and Kirk Nieuwenhuis each drove in a run for the Mets, who were able to finish off their first-ever four-game sweep of Miami. Matt Harvey (3-0) allowed four runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts over six-plus innings to pick up the win.

New York, though, suffered a pair of injuries in the game as d'Arnaud fractured his right hand when he was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, and reliever Jerry Blevins left the game with a fractured left forearm when he was hit by a come-backer from Dee Gordon in the seventh inning.

"You just keep coming to work every day because you can't control those things," said Murphy about the injuries. "I feel like we've got plenty of depth in our system so we'll call some guys up and go from there."

J.T. Realmuto drove in a pair of runs while Martin Prado scored twice for the Marlins, who saw starter Tom Koehler (1-2) allowed seven runs on five hits with a pair of walks in just 3 1/3 innings.

"You see how the team fought back and it feels good to know your team has your back like that," said Koehler. "At the same time, it's frustrating because you feel like you didn't do your job."

The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the second as Prado and Marcell Ozuna singled to put runners at the corners, and Realmuto hit into a fielder's choice to score Prado.

Koehler was flawless his first time through the Mets' order, but got tagged in the fourth.

Curtis Granderson and d'Arnaud singled and Lucas Duda walked to load the bases before Eric Campbell struck out for the first out of the frame. Singles from Murphy and Lagares, followed by a walk from Nieuwenhuis brought home three runs, and Tejada cleared the bases with a double to left. Another single from d'Arnaud scored Tejada for a 7-1 lead.

Miami got a run back in the sixth as Giancarlo Stanton's RBI single scored Gordon, who reached on a single and moved to second on a wild pitch, to make it a 7-2 game.

The Marlins chipped away at their deficit a little more in the seventh as Adeiny Hechavarria singled in one run, and a wild pitch from Alex Torres later plated Realmuto for a 7-4 contest.

A pair of sac flies from Ozuna and Realmuto in the eighth cut the Marlins' deficit to one, but Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season.

Game Notes

The Marlins were 5-for-11 with runners in scoring position, while the Mets went 4-for-9 ... Each team resumes play on Tuesday with the Mets hosting Atlanta for three games and the Marlins starting a three-game series in Philadelphia.
