Dodgers rack up 21 hits, crush Marlins
May 13, 2015 - 5:44 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Ethier tied a career high with five hits and also drove in three runs as Los Angeles ripped Miami to the tune of 11-1 in the middle test of a three-game set.Scott Van Slyke contributed three hits and drove in two, Yasmani Grandal and Alex Guerrero each knocked in a pair while Howie Kendrick added four hits, including a solo shot for the Dodgers, who burst through with a season-high 21 hits to claim their fifth straight victory.
Recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the contest, Mike Bolsinger (1-0) allowed a run on five hits through 5 2/3 innings.
Giancarlo Stanton's mammoth homer stood as the only meaningful offense for the Marlins. Dan Haren (4-2) was torched by his former club for six runs on 11 hits over 4 1/3 frames.
LA blitzed the Marlins for four runs in the fifth to seize control of the contest.
Jimmy Rollins reached on a bloop single, moved up on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout. Adrian Gonzalez was plunked then Guerrero's double scored Rollins and Grandal's base hit brought in Gonzalez. Ethier's single chased Haren for Brad Hand, who gave up an RBI single to Van Slyke to make it 6-1 before the next two batters were retired quietly.
In the sixth, a Gonzalez double followed by a Guerrero single upped the Dodgers' edge to 8-1. Grandal walked to load the bases ahead of a two-run single from Ethier and Nick Masset gave up a sacrifice fly to Van Slyke for a 10-run LA lead.
Miami left runners on in the seventh and eighth, but offered no resistance in the ninth.
Stanton's blast with two down in the first inning completely cleared the bleachers and landed on the rear of the canopy on the covered pavilion, traveling an estimated 478 feet.
Kendrick evened things on his leadoff blast in the third and Ethier put the hosts ahead when he cleared the wall in center to kick off the fourth.
Game Notes
Ethier collected his third career five-hit game and his 14th career contest with four hits or more ... With Monday's series-opening win, the Dodgers have taken 10 consecutive series at Chavez Ravine ... To make room for Bolsinger, the Dodgers optioned outfielder Chris Heisey to OKC.
