Sloppy Dodgers fall to Marlins

Jun 28, 2015 - 12:49 AM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mistakes cost Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers in the Miami Marlins' 3-2 win over Los Angeles on Saturday.

Kershaw (5-6) allowed three runs -- one earned -- on seven hits in seven innings with nine strikeouts and no walks but still ended up on the losing end due to two errors and a wild pitch.

His counterpart was also very good. Tom Koehler (6-4) allowed both Dodgers runs on six hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and no walks.

Christian Yelich had his second career four-hit game, scored one of Miami's runs and was just the second left-handed hitter to have three hits in a game against Kershaw.

The Dodgers took the first lead of the game just three batters into the game. After Joc Pederson and Howie Kendrick struck out, Justin Turner ripped his 11th home run of the season to center field to extend his career high.

With Giancarlo Stanton on the disabled list due to a broken hamate bone, Miami took advantage of the opportunities handed to them by the Dodgers. Yelich collected his first hit with one out in the game. Adeiny Hechavarria followed with a single to right field, and when Andre Ethier tried to cut Yelich down taking third base, his throw rolled into the dugout, allowing Yelich to score.

"This team could have come in here deflated after the injury to (Stanton)," said Marlins manager Dan Jennings. "(Koehler) stuck his nose in there today and gave the ballclub exactly what it needed."

Hechavarria advanced to third on the error, and he came home on a wild pitch that got past Yasmani Grandal during Marcell Ozuna's at-bat.

J.T. Realmuto led off the second with a double and moved to third on Miguel Rojas' groundout. Kershaw just had to retire Koehler to get out of a jam, but was unable to do so. Realmuto hustled home after Koehler lined the ball right to Pederson, who could not secure the catch in center.

"It cost us the game," said Pederson.

The Dodgers had a rally brewing in the fourth. After Kendrick and Turner singled to start the inning, Adrian Gonzalez singled home Kendrick to pull Los Angeles within 3-2 before Either lined out. Hechavarria then combined with second baseman Dee Gordon on an acrobatic double play to rob Grandal of a hit and end the inning.

After the fourth, the Dodgers only had two more hits, and Carter Capps and A.J. Ramos combined to strike out four of the six batters they faced over the last two innings to end the game.
