Kershaw toes rubber for Dodgers in Miami

Jun 27, 2015 - 4:53 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Clayton Kershaw is winless in his last three starts and the Los Angeles Dodgers ace gets the nod Saturday in the middle portion of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins.

Kershaw is 0-2 during his drought and previously toed the rubber in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. He allowed three runs in seven innings, struck out nine batters and walked two.

The left-hander and three-time NL Cy Young Award recipient fell to 5-5 with a 3.33 earned run average in 15 starts and has allowed seven runs over his winless streak. Kershaw is only 1-3 in eight road assignments, but has a 5-1 mark to go along with a 1.99 ERA in seven career starts against Miami.

Kershaw has allowed 11 home runs this season, including four in the last three games.

Tom Koehler will counter Kershaw on the hill for the Marlins and is 5-4 with a 3.76 earned run average in 14 games (13 starts). Koehler improved to 3-1 in his last four decisions with seven innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 win over the New York Yankees on June 15.

Koehler, who has been dealing with a neck and back issue, will make his fifth career start against the Dodgers. He is 1-2 with a 2.91 ERA in the first four appearances and 3-1 with a 1.52 ERA in seven home games (6 starts).

Dodgers starter Brett Anderson was fantastic in Friday's 7-1 rout of the Marlins and held the hosts to just a run and five hits through seven innings. Anderson struck out 10 batters and walked one. He also helped his own cause at the plate with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

"I didn't even really notice it until right there after the game but we really didn't need fielders," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said in reference to Anderson's sharp performance.

Scott Van Slyke hit a two-run homer, Howie Kendrick recorded four hits and an RBI, and Jimmy Rollins knocked in a pair of runs for the Dodgers, who have won three in a row and pushed their lead atop the NL West standings to two games ahead of San Francisco. The Giants were beaten by Colorado on Friday.

The Dodgers will visit Arizona for three games on this 10-game trek and split four matchups with the Cubs to open the jaunt.

Miami is mired in a five-game losing streak and has lost eight of its last nine games. Justin Nicolino struggled in his second career start and was reached for five runs and six hits in four innings.

Dee Gordon had three of Miami's six hits and scored a run, while slugger Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Stanton experienced pain in his left hand and an MRI revealed a broken hamate bone. He is expected to miss the next four to six weeks and was placed on the 15-day DL.

"On a swing, my bat dug into my hand a little bit," Stanton said. "It didn't feel the greatest."

Stanton leads the majors in home runs (27) and RBI (67).

Outfielder Cole Gillespie has been selected from Triple-A New Orleans to fill Stanton's roster spot.

The Marlins are 0-4 on a nine-game homestand.

Miami lost two of three games at Dodger Stadium in May. Los Angeles is 11-5 in the last 16 games in this series.
