Reimold powers Orioles past White Sox 6-3
Apr 30, 2016 - 4:01 AM BALTIMORE (AP) This time, it was Nolan Reimold's turn to be the hero in the Baltimore Orioles' deep and powerful lineup.Reimold hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the Orioles to a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
''It feels good,'' said Reimold, who has dealt with injuries throughout his 8-year career. ''It's a good start. It's a long year, obviously. I'll just try to keep it up and do the little things to keep at it and keep some momentum when I get out there.''
The White Sox entered this series riding a six-game winning streak but have lost consecutive games to the Orioles, whose 9-1 mark at Camden Yards is the best home mark in the major leagues.
Brett Lawrie snapped a 2-for-18 skid and tied the score 3-3 with a solo homer off the Orioles' Brad Brach in the seventh. Reimold then put Baltimore back in the lead when he hit Carlos Rodon's first pitch over the scoreboard in right field in the bottom of the inning.
''He's been solid,'' Orioles manager Buck Showalter said about Reimold. ''He's been a real contributor. It's the first time, I don't want to say completely healthy, but healthy to show what he's capable of doing and remind everybody. I'm real happy for him because he's been down a rough road.''
Brach (3-0) earned the win in relief of Mike Wright. Zach Britton pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
Rodon (1-3) gave up six runs and eight hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts.
''I felt fine,'' Rodon said. ''I thought I threw well but sometimes things don't go your way, and you make a mistake like that late in the game, and you're going to pay for it against these big league hitters.''
The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second on a two-out triple by Avisail Garcia. Rodon retired 11 straight with five strikeouts before allowing a two-out single to Chris Davis.
However, two errors helped the Orioles take a 3-1 lead in the fifth.
Lawrie couldn't handle a sharp grounder by Matt Wieters before a dribbler by Reimold loaded the bases. Jonathan Schoop followed with a two-run single to center. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins then lost his footing on a potential double play, airing his throw to first that allowed Reimold to score.
''It's just an off night for us with the glove,'' White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. ''We've been very good defensively and taking care of the ball, and tonight, for one reason or another, it just wasn't that way for us. Just a bad inning for us.''
After an RBI single by Jose Abreu pulled the White Sox within a run, Adam Jones preserved the lead by throwing out Rollins, who tried to tag up from third.
GOING DEEP
