Masterson hopes for more success vs. White Sox
Apr 12, 2014 - 1:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Cleveland right-hander Justin Masterson will attempt to continue a recent run of success against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon when the Indians visit them for the third game of a four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.Masterson is 5-0 with a stingy 2.14 earned run average in his last eight starts against the White Sox, including four wins last season in which he allowed just three runs over 30-plus innings and threw two shutouts.
He's been hot and cold in two starts thus far in 2014, allowing three hits in seven scoreless innings against Oakland, then giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings against Minnesota.
The White Sox counter with Felipe Paulino, who was knocked around in his most recent outing at Colorado on Monday. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings and was nicked for nine hits and six runs in that one while walking four in an 8-1 loss.
Paulino has a lifetime 1.42 ERA against the Indians, but hasn't faced them in three years.
On Friday, Conor Gillaspie went 2-for-3 with four RBI to lead Chicago to a 9-6 win. Adam Eaton was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored and Adam Dunn added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the White Sox, who improved to 4-1 at home this season.
Chris Sale (3-0) earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits while fanning five over five innings.
Asdrubal Cabrera drove in two runs while Nick Swisher, Ryan Raburn and Michael Brantley drove in one run apiece for the Indians, losers in three straight.
Carlos Carrasco (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over 4 2/3 innings.
Cleveland was 17-2 versus the White Sox last season.
