Harang heads to the hill to face Marlins
Apr 23, 2014 - 2:19 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran right-hander Aaron Harang makes his first appearance since being pulled after seven hitless innings on Wednesday afternoon when the Atlanta Braves visit Marlins Park to wrap up a three-game series with the Miami Marlins. The 35-year-old threw 121 pitches, struck out five batters and walked six through seven innings of the Braves' 6-0 defeat of the New York Mets on Friday at Citi Field.
He was pulled for a reliever to begin the eighth and the Mets finished with one hit in nine innings.
"I want to see him throw a no-hitter, but I think you get to a point where you have to worry about 25 more starts," Gonzalez said. "You have to worry about his longevity and all of that kind of stuff. I think we made the right decision. It doesn't matter who comes in and tells me different."
In his last three starts, Harang has held foes to a .110 batting average.
In 13 starts against the Marlins, he's 5-4 with a 6.26 earned run average.
Miami got a pitching gem in Tuesday's middle game when Jose Fernandez allowed three hits in eight innings and struck out 14 in a 1-0 Marlins win.
The team's starters have posted a 1.50 earned run average in their last seven games.
Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi gets the latest assignment after allowing three runs in six innings of Miami's 8-4 win over Seattle on Friday.
He pitched 15 innings against the Braves across two starts in 2013 and didn't allow a run.
In six career meetings with Atlanta, he's 1-1 with a 2.19 ERA.
On Tuesday, Casey McGehee drove in the lone run for the Marlins, who have won four of five.
Alex Wood (2-3) gave up just one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts over eight innings to take the hard-luck loss for the Braves, who had won three of four coming in.
Atlanta was 13-6 against Miami last season.
