Phils begin last leg of road trip vs. Diamondbacks
Apr 25, 2014 - 2:41 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies will begin the last leg of their 10-game road trip with Friday's opener of a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Phillies took three of four meetings with the Los Angeles Dodgers after dropping two of three in Colorado and rallied for a 7-3 win on Thursday night. Carlos Ruiz drove in two runs with a double in the ninth inning and Marlon Byrd added a two-run single in the decisive frame.
Byrd ended with three hits and four RBI, while Ruiz was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored for the Phillies.
Kyle Kendrick started for the Phillies and did not record a decision, as he allowed two runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Mike Adams threw two innings of relief for the win.
"It was a big series with the four games against a hot team," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "We played good defense for four games and came up with some clutch hits."
Roberto Hernandez was roughed up in his last start and gets the start Friday night. He won his first start of the season on April 4 and has posted three straight no-decisions since then. In Sunday's 10-9 win at Colorado, Hernandez allowed six runs and nine hits in four innings.
Hernandez won his only start against Arizona and went the distance, allowing two runs and five hits.
Arizona went 3-4 on a recent road trip and will start a six-game homestand Friday versus Philadelphia and Colorado.
In Thursday's 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, starting pitcher Mike Bolsinger struck out seven and gave up an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings. Addison Reed posted his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.
Miguel Montero had two RBI and Paul Goldschmidt, Tony Campana and Bolsinger each drove in a run for the D'Backs.
"It's his third appearance, so I think that he's a lot more confident," D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson said of Bolsinger. "He did what he had to do. He came out and executed like he has down in the minor leagues and that was big for us."
Josh Collmenter draws the start for the D'Backs and is 0-2 with a 4.50 earned run average in six games (2 starts). He has lost back-to-back trips to the hill and has allowed seven runs in 10 innings over that time.
Collmenter, a right-hander, is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in six games (2 starts) against the Phillies in his career.
Arizona went 3-4 against Philadelphia last season after going 2-4 in 2012.
