Reimold homers twice as Blue Jays edge Astros
Aug 1, 2014 - 7:30 AM Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Reimold's second home run of the game propelled the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-5 win over the Houston Astros in the opener of a four-game series.Reimold homered in the ninth inning off of Chad Qualls (1-3) to put Toronto ahead and Casey Janssen pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to lock down the win and pick up his 18th save of the season.
Jose Bautista and Dioner Navarro also homered the for the Blue Jays, who have won six straight after starting a 10-game road trip with a loss.
Drew Hutchison lasted just three innings as he was tagged for four runs on six hits. Aaron Sanchez (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Jonathan Singleton hit a solo home run for the Astros, who have lost seven of nine.
Jake Buchanan made the start for Houston in place of Jarred Cosart, who was traded to Miami earlier on Thursday. Buchanan gave up three runs on five hits over five innings.
Bautista hit a solo homer in the first and Ryan Goins singled home Danny Valencia in the second to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.
In the home half of the second, Singleton homered with one out to make it a 2-1 game, and the Astros went on top in the third.
Gregorio Petit singled and moved to second on a balk. Robbie Grossman singled to score Petit and moved to second on the throw home. A double from Jason Castro scored Grossman, and Marc Krauss singled home Castro for a 4-2 lead.
Reimold hit his first home run of the game and the season in the fifth, and Navarro added his solo blast in the sixth.
"Obviously, their four solo home runs proved to be the difference in the ballgame," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "They definitely are a power-hitting team."
Houston, though, scored one run in the home sixth as Matt Dominguez doubled, moved to third when L.J. Hoes reached base on a Bautista error, and came home on a Petit groundout.
Bautista's sacrifice fly tied the game in the eighth.

The Blue Jays took two of three from the Astros in Toronto in early April ... Houston got outfielder Jake Marisnick, pitcher Francis Martes, infielder Colin Moran and a 2015 competitive balance draft pick from Miami for Cosart in addition to infielder Enrique Hernandez and outfielder Austin Wates ... Toronto placed first baseman Dan Johnson on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday and recalled pitcher Chad Jenkins from Buffalo (IL).
