Rockies search for success against D-backs
Aug 9, 2014 - 1:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies will try to avoid losing their fourth straight series when they resume a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday from Chase Field. The Rockies have lost two straight and 10 of their last 12 games, including Friday's 5-3 setback to the Diamondbacks. Tyler Matzek was saddled with the loss in the start for Colorado and gave up three runs in five innings.
Michael McKenry homered and Corey Dickerson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a losing cause. McKenry had a miscue in the seventh when David Peralta stole home. McKenry casually tossed the ball back to reliever Rex Brothers and Peralta darted home for a run.
"It was on me, it was my fault. I feel awful about it," McKenry said.
Arizona scored twice in the seventh to erase a 3-3 tie.
Colorado is winless in its last five road games and will hand the ball to starter Jorge De La Rosa Saturday night. De La Rosa is 11-7 with a 4.27 earned run average and had won his previous five decisions until a 4-0 loss at Detroit on Sunday, as he gave up all four runs in 6 2/3 frames.
De La Rosa is 4-5 in 12 road starts and 8-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 22 career games (18 starts) against the Diamondbacks.
The D-backs had lost three in a row before last night's win and are 3-5 on a 10-game homestand.
Miguel Montero hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Peralta collected two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Chase Anderson picked up the win in the start and held the Rockies to a run in six innings of work. Anderson fanned six batters and walked one.
"It's nice because you can kind of settle in," Anderson said of being staked to an early lead.
Trevor Cahill will start for Arizona Saturday and he is only 1-8 with a 5.12 earned run average in 23 games (8 starts). Cahill last toed the rubber in a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh on Sunday and did not figure into the decision with seven innings of one-run ball and seven strikeouts.
The right-hander has faced Colorado 12 times (9 starts) in his career, going 3-5 with a 4.55 ERA.
Arizona is 6-4 against the NL West-rival Rockies this season.
