Royals turn to streaking Duffy in clash with Rockies
Aug 20, 2014 - 2:46 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Danny Duffy takes aim at his fourth straight win on Wednesday when the Kansas City Royals close out a brief two-game set with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.Duffy's latest win came in Minnesota on Friday, as he allowed three runs (2 earned) and six hits in 5 1/3 innings to improve to 8-10 on the year to go along with a 2.60 ERA.
Duffy lost to the Rockies in his only other start against them back in 2011.
Colorado, meanwhile, turns to lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who is 12-8 on the year with a 4.32 ERA. De La Rosa snapped a two-start losing streak on Thursday, as he beat Cincinnati, holding the Reds to a three runs and five hits in seven innings. He also struck out five and walked a batter.
De La Rosa hasn't faced the Royals since a loss to them in 2008.
Kansas City continued to roll on Tuesday, as Omar Infante went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI and a run scored to propel the Royals to a 7-4 win.
Christian Colon, Salvador Perez and Lorenzo Cain all drove in a run for Kansas City, which has won six of its last seven games. The Royals have now won 22 of their last 27 games, including their last seven in interleague play.
Kansas City also maintained its two-game edge over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.
James Shields (12-6) won his third straight decision after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on nine hits with a walk and six strikeouts.
The Royals maintained their two-game lead over the Tigers for first place in the AL Central, as Detroit downed Tampa Bay in extra innings on Tuesday.
Drew Stubbs hit a two-run home run and Nolan Arenado added a solo homer for the Rockies, who had won three of four coming in. Tyler Matzek (2-9) lost his fifth straight start after getting touched for three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
"He did a really nice job for us tonight," said Colorado manager Walt Weiss. "Most of the game he kept the off-balance so he's really making some strides."
