Aug 24, 2014 - 4:40 AM Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Carpenter's sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 6-5 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. The Cardinals moved within a half-game of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central with the win, their eighth in 10 games.
Daniel Descalso drew a leadoff walk against Ken Giles (2-1) and eventually scored on Carpenter's deep fly to left field.

The Phillies' rally in the eighth started with consecutive singles from Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley, who then executed a double steal. Randy Choate hit Howard and was replaced by Pat Neshek, who gave up Byrd's bloop single to shallow center field to tie the score at 5-5.
Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon stranded runners at second and third in the ninth, including Kolten Wong, who led off with a blast to the center field wall that Ben Revere inadvertently kicked over the fence.
Revere was hit by Sam Freeman with one out in the bottom of the ninth but didn't make it past first base.
In the 11th, A.J. Pierzynski grounded into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded for St. Louis and Grady Sizemore did the same in the bottom of the inning with a runner at first.
Phillies starter David Buchanan went five innings and gave up two runs on eight hits and two walks. Mario Hollands replaced him to start the sixth and gave up three runs after the Phillies committed a pair of errors.
Pierzynski hit a leadoff double and scored after Oscar Taveras singled to left fielder Domonic Brown, who overthrew third. Howard hit his 19th homer of the season in the sixth.
Earlier, Peralta led off the second inning with his 18th homer of the season for a 1-0 Cardinals lead. Carlos Ruiz put the Phillies on top with a double to the right-center field gap in the fourth inning.
