Ryu eyes another solid start as Dodgers battle D-backs

Sep 6, 2014 - 2:44 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Hyun-Jin Ryu will try to build off his successful return from injury on Saturday evening as the Los Angeles Dodgers continue a three- game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sidelined because of a strained glute, Ryu came off the disabled list and beat San Diego 7-1 on Sunday. The left-hander allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, striking out seven and not giving up a walk.

Ryu has won five of his last six decisions, moving to 14-6 with a 3.18 earned run average on the year.

He is 3-2 in his career versus Arizona with a 3.35 ERA.

Rookie Chase Anderson counters for the Diamondbacks having won for the first time in four starts with a 6-2 decision over Colorado on Sunday. The righty allowed one run on five hits over six innings, striking out eight to zero walks.

"He was fresh. He had seven days of rest," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said of Anderson. "He had more life in his arm. Our starters this series were outstanding."

Anderson is 8-6 with a 3.75 ERA but has split a pair of meetings versus the Dodgers while pitching to a 6.10 ERA. He has given up three home runs to the club in 10 1/3 innings.

Los Angeles won Friday's opener 2-1 as Matt Kemp hit a solo homer and Hanley Ramirez also drove in a run to keep the Dodgers two games ahead of San Francisco for first place in the NL West.

Dan Haren struck out six and allowed a run on four hits and a walk over six innings to notch the win. Kenley Jansen tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 40th save of the year.

"Forty saves is tremendous. I'm happy being consistent," Jansen said.

Vidal Nuno surrendered two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven frames for Arizona, which had won two in a row.

"I missed my spots in the first three innings and I found them after Kemp's home run. I was able to command my pitches after that," Nuno said.

Arizona lost after having fired general manager Kevin Towers earlier on Friday. Towers had been the club's GM since September 2010. The Diamondbacks were 320-317 with one division title during his tenure.

The Diamondbacks lost two games at home to Los Angeles last week and are 4-13 in the season series.
