Peralta, Brewers down Marlins
Sep 11, 2014 - 3:40 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Clark drove in two runs and Wily Peralta provided 6 2/3 solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Miami Marlins, 4-1, in the third of four games at Miller Park on Wednesday.Clark hit his first career home run in the seventh inning and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for the Brewers, who entered the game with losses in 13 of their last 14 games.
Peralta (16-10) gave up just one run on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts to snap a three-start losing streak. He also contributed offensively with an RBI.
Marcell Ozuna homered and Jarred Cosart (4-2), who entered the game with four straight winning decisions, allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over six frames for Miami, which had its three-game winning streak come to an end.
"We were sloppy tonight. It wasn't our best defensive showing," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "At this time of year, every mistake will cost you."
Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-out double in the first and hustled home on Aramis Ramirez's single. Lucroy was called out after catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia tagged him out at home. The Brewers challenged the close play, but the call was upheld.
"It's really upsetting when we have this in place and they can't get the call right," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke on the replay review.
Peralta drove in the game's first run in the third. Jean Segura reached second on an error and stole third before coming on home on Peralta's sacrifice fly to right field.
Clark's sac fly to left in the fourth made it a 2-0 game.
Ozuna led off the seventh with a blast to right center, getting the Marlins within one.
The Brewers countered with two runs in the home half. Clark opened the frame by launching a solo shot off Sam Dyson to right. Segura singled and reached second on Saltalamacchia's throwing error before moving to third on Logan Schafer's groundout. Carlos Gomez then poked an RBI single to the mound for a 4-1 lead.
Jonathan Broxton was perfect over 1 1/3 innings of relief before Francisco Rodriguez tossed a scoreless ninth for his 40th save of the season. It is the fifth time in his career that he has reached 40 saves in a single season. The last time he did so was when he had a major-league record 62 in 2008 with the Angels.
Game Notes
