Odor, Rangers top slumping Braves
Sep 14, 2014 - 5:40 AM Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Rougned Odor delivered a two-run double in the sixth inning that proved to be the difference in the Texas Rangers' 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday.Lisalverto Bonilla (1-0) grabbed his first major-league win after allowing two runs on four hits and four walks over six innings of work.
Elvis Andrus added an RBI for Texas, which has taken the first two games of this three-game set.
"I was really happy with what he did," Rangers interim manager Tim Bogar said of Bonilla. "For the most part, he pounded the strike zone and I thought his breaking balls were key to the whole thing."
Julio Teheran (13-12), who carried a no-hitter through five innings, was a tough-luck loser, yielding three unearned runs while striking out six over eight innings on the hill.
"He went from no hits to giving up a few hits to losing the ball game, but he pitched well," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez.
Atlanta has lost eight of its last 11 games and are fading in the NL wild card race.
The Braves scored a pair of runs in the third after Phil Gosselin singled home Emilio Bonifacio and Freddie Freeman drove a double to left which scored Gosselin.
Texas got all of its runs in the sixth after breaking up Teheran's no-hit bid. Luis Sardinas singled to left with one out, then a crucial error on Justin Upton two batters later could have ended the inning, but Andrus followed with an RBI single to right that cut the Braves lead in half. Odor then stepped in and stroked a two-run double to left that pushed the Rangers in front.
Neal Cotts worked around a one-out single in the ninth to secure his first save of the season.
Game Notes
Atlanta went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position, while Texas went 2- for-3 in those instances ... Freeman has 73 RBI this season ... Bonifacio stole his 22nd base of the season in the setback.
