Blue Jays down Yanks, end 6-game skid
Sep 21, 2014 - 6:29 AM Bronx, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - John Mayberry Jr.'s sacrifice fly capped a three-run sixth inning that carried the Toronto Blue Jays over the New York Yankees, 6-3, in the third contest of a four-game series.Danny Valencia knocked in two runs for the Blue Jays, who snapped a six-game skid. "We kind of cruised through the first five innings, had a good tempo going," said Capuano.
Trailing 2-1, the Blue Jays scored three runs in the sixth and took the lead for good. Bautista walked, Edwin Encarnacion reached on an infield single and Dioner Navarro walked to load the bases with no outs. Valencia hit a two-run double to left and Mayberry followed with a sac fly.
Bautista led off the seventh with a homer to make it 5-2.
"It's going to be tough, but mathematically we're still in it," said Bautista.
The Blue Jays tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Navarro hit an RBI single to plate Bautista, who began the frame with another walk, then advanced on a wild pitch and groundout.
Toronto sent Brandon Morrow to the mound in the bottom half, but he was given a quick hook as Brett Gardner singled and raced home on Jeter's double to left. Casey Janssen came in from the bullpen and recorded the final two outs for his 24th save of the season.
Earlier, Bautista scored on Encarnacion's double to left-center field in the first.
The Yankees tied things up in the third when Jeter reached on a two-out infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch and crossed the plate on McCann's single.
New York tacked on another run in the fourth. Chase Headley singled, moved to second on Ichiro Suzuki's single and scored on Cervelli's base hit up the middle.
