Sep 25, 2014 - 6:17 AM San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tommy Medica hit a three-run homer and the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set.Joe Wieland (1-0) earned his first career win after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Alexi Amarista knocked in a run for San Diego, which wrapped up its final homestand of the season by going 8-2.
Yohan Flande (0-6) was given the loss, surrendering four runs on four hits over four innings.
Michael Cuddyer and Corey Dickerson each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Rockies, who have lost nine of its last 10 on the road.
Charlie Blackmon led off the game with his 19th homer of the season, a shot to right that gave the Rockies an early edge.
San Diego answered with three in the home half. Yangervis Solarte doubled to lead off the frame and after two quick outs, Yasmani Grandal was hit by a pitch. The miscue from Flande proved costly, as Medica delivered his ninth homer of the season for a 3-1 Padres lead.
"The last three or four games that he's started, he's hit some balls on the nose," Padres manager Bud Black said about Medica.
Medica then doubled following a single from Grandal in the fourth, and Amarista made it 4-1 with an RBI groundout later in the inning.
Cuddyer and Dickerson each hit RBI singles in the sixth to trim the deficit to one, but that's as close as the Rockies would get.
Joaquin Benoit came on in the ninth and secured his 10th save of the season.
"When they get a lead, their bullpen's tough," said Colorado manager Walt Weiss.
