Braves shoot for 5-0 start
Apr 11, 2015 - 11:20 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Off to their best start in more than 20 years, the Atlanta Braves continue their three-game series against the New York Mets at Turner Field Saturday night.The Braves are 4-0 for the first time since 1994 when they won their first seven contests.
On Friday, Phil Gosselin came to the rescue with a two-out, two-run single which helped Atlanta claim a 5-3 win. Cameron Maybin homered and Chris Johnson added three hits for the Braves, who have allowed just six runs this season.
"We believe in what we have here," Maybin said. "We like what we have."
Jim Johnson (1-0) fanned three in a scoreless eighth inning, then Jason Grilli picked up his third save by holding the visitors off the board in the ninth.
David Wright hit a two-run homer and John Mayberry added a solo shot for the Mets, who had taken two of three at Washington to open the year.
Rafael Montero (0-1) was charged with the deciding runs over his single relief frame.
Julio Teheran gets back on the mound Saturday night for the Braves. The right- hander tossed six solid innings in Atlanta's 2-1 win at Miami on opening day. He allowed a run on eight hits.
Teheran is 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA in eight games, including seven starts against the Mets.
Dillon Gee counters for New York in his 2015 debut. The righty went 7-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 22 starts last year. Gee is 6-4 with a 2.79 ERA in 14 contests versus Atlanta.
New York beat Atlanta in 10 of 19 meetings last season.
