Cueto set for milestone start against Braves
May 3, 2015 - 12:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnny Cueto will make the 200th start of his career on Sunday when the Cincinnati Reds close a four-game series against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.Cueto has won his last two starts, both versus the Brewers. On Tuesday, the right-hander lasted eight innings for the second straight outing, giving up three hits and a pair of runs in a 4-2 final. Cueto is 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA in six previous games against the Braves.
Julio Teheran counters on the hill for Atlanta. The righty is 0-1 over his last three starts since an April 11 victory against the Mets. Teheran didn't get a decision when he faced the Nationals Tuesday despite allowing 10 hits and seven runs -- three earned -- over 5 2/3 innings. He's 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA in three games against the Reds.
Cincinnati came through with an 8-4 win Saturday night. Marlon Byrd, Todd Frazier and Zack Cozart all homered to back a solid Jason Marquis.
Marquis (3-1) did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and exited after 6 1/3 innings, having allowed three runs on five hits and a pair of walks.
"He's just been playing a lot and understands the circumstances and wants to win," Frazier said of Marquis, referring to the fact Marquis can become a free agent after this season.
In addition to the trio of home runs, the Reds got a pair of triples from Jay Bruce, who drove in two runs. Cozart was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.
Eric Stults (1-2) only allowed three singles through the first three innings but yielded six runs over his next four frames. He finished with six runs allowed on 11 hits in seven innings.
Cameron Maybin hit a two-run home run and finished with three runs batted in, and Andrelton Simmons reached base four times and drove in a run.
"He's one of the toughest guys around," Maybin said of Marquis. "He's a bulldog out there."
The Reds went 2-5 against the Braves last season, losing the first five meetings between the ball clubs.
