Angels send Wilson to hill vs. Mariners

The left-hander eyes his first win in five starts on Wednesday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim close out a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium.

Wilson did not get a decision against San Francisco on Friday, but more importantly, showed no ill effects of the elbow discomfort that forced the Angels to push his last start back two days.

He gave up two runs (1 earned) and four hits in seven innings in the start against the Giants. Wilson had allowed a run in 5 2/3 innings of his previous start and is 1-2 on the year with a 2.73 ERA.

Wilson has faced Seattle 59 times (22 starts) and is 16-8 with a 3.36 ERA.

Seattle, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Roenis Elias, who continues to fill in for the injured Hisashi Iwakuma. Elias suffered the loss on Friday in Houston, as he surrendered three runs and six hits - 2 homers - in six innings to fall to 0-1 to go along with a 3.86 ERA.

"He did a nice job," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "He just made one horrible pitch with two strikes to (Evan) Gattis. You don't do that, you might win a ballgame. But he pitched extremely well."

Elias started three games against the Angels last season and went 0-2 with a 5.65 ERA.

On Tuesday, Carlos Perez had a big league debut to remember, as his walk-off home run in the ninth inning capped a three-run rally and lifted Los Angeles to a 5-4 victory.

Perez, who finished with two hits, became the first player with a walk-off homer in his major-league debut since Miguel Cabrera with the Marlins in 2003.

"Carlos is ready for this challenge," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He had a great game tonight. He could be in this league for a long time."

Albert Pujols stroked a two-run homer and scored twice, while Erick Aybar and Johnny Giavotella each drove in a run for the Angels, who ended a four-game skid.

Huston Street (1-0) earned the win after tossing a flawless ninth. Starter Garrett Richards surrendered just one run on five hits with five strikeouts over seven strong innings in the no-decision.

Mike Zunino brought in two runs and Robinson Cano and Logan Morrison each had three hits for the Mariners, while starter James Paxton gave up two runs on four hits and three walks in seven frames.

"It was unfortunate for us," McClendon said. "Any time you have the lead in the eighth inning you expect to win it."

The Angels took two of three from Seattle to start the season.
