Angels edge Mariners
May 7, 2015 - 5:23 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Johnny Giavotella ripped an RBI double into right field in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Los Angeles Angels to their second straight walk-off win over the Seattle Mariners with a 4-3 decision on Wednesday.Seattle tied the game off Los Angeles closer Huston Street (2-0) in the ninth. Kyle Seager, who homered earlier in the game, legged out a double to start the rally, then moved over to third on Mike Zunino's bloop single into center. Following a a flyout from Logan Morrison into shallow left, pinch-hitter Dustin Ackley lifted a deep drive to the warning track in left that allowed Seager to cross home. Street walked Chris Taylor in the next at-bat, but struck out Brad Miller to end the inning.
Carson Smith (0-2) stepped to the hill in the home ninth for the M's, and he immediately issued a leadoff walk to David Freese. Erick Aybar attempted to move pinch-runner Taylor Featherston over with a bunt, but Seager made the play at second to get the lead runner.
The Angels then executed a textbook hit-and-run with Giavotella slicing a double into the right-field corner and Aybar raced around the bags to win it.
"We didn't get a bunt down but we picked it up with a good execution of a hit- and-run," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Johnny and Erick executed a great hit-and-run."
Carlos Perez hit a game-winning homer in the ninth on Tuesday night.
"Baseball is a funny game in a lot of different ways ... It's tough two nights in a row," said Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon.
Los Angeles got on the board with a three-run third inning. Collin Cowgill tripled with one away and waltzed home on Kole Calhoun's double to left. Mike Trout proceeded to blast his seventh homer of the season and give the Angels a 3-0 edge.
In the fourth, Seager followed a Nelson Cruz single with a homer to right that trimmed the deficit to 3-2.
With two outs in the seventh, Trout dashed into the gap on Taylor's deep drive to right center, fully extended on a dive and snared the ball just before it hit the warning track to end the inning.
Angels starter C.J. Wilson was in line for the win before Street blew his first save of the season. Wilson allowed two runs on seven his over seven innings, while opposing starter Roenis Elias surrendered three runs in seven frames.
