Dodgers seek to stay hot at plate vs. Brewers
May 6, 2015 - 2:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to keep the bats going Wednesday in the third installment of a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. The NL West leaders handed Milwaukee an 8-2 defeat on Tuesday, one night after dropping a 4-3 decision in the series opener.
Justin Turner hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning and both Adrian Gonzalez and Jimmy Rollins cracked two-run shots in the seventh for the Dodgers, winners in eight of their last 11 games. Turner had three hits and four RBI, while Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Turner has homered in four of his last six games.
"Justin's been extremely hot lately," Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly said.
Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke doubled at the plate and improved to 5-0 on the season by holding the Brewers to an unearned run and two hits in 7 2/3 innings. He is 10-0 in his last 14 starts.
The Dodgers will close out this Brew City series Thursday afternoon.
Joe Wieland is set to make his Los Angeles debut on the mound and lost his only career start against Milwaukee. The right-hander spent the 2012 and 2014 seasons with the San Diego Padres.
The Brewers had their three-game winning streak stopped last night and fell to 8-19 on the season.
Aramis Ramirez recorded two hits, and RBI and a run scored to highlight the offense, while Matt Garza was touched for three runs in six innings. Garza struck out five, walked three and gave up Turner's blast.
"I was just trying to make pitches," Garza said. "I thought I had good stuff tonight, but one pitch cost me."
Milwaukee is 4-11 at home and will host both Chicago clubs on this 10-game stay at Miller Park.
Brewers starting pitcher Wily Peralta is still looking for his first win of the season and gets the nod Wednesday. Peralta is 0-4 with a 4.35 earned run average in five starts -- all Milwaukee losses -- and pitched well in defeat the last time out on Friday against the Cubs.
Peralta tossed six innings of one-run ball in a 1-0 loss and has given up three runs in his previous two appearances. The right-hander is 0-2 in three home starts and 2-1 with a 4.61 ERA in three career starts against the Dodgers.
The Brewers took five of six the meetings with LA last season.
