Pineda gets call for Yankees vs. O's

May 10, 2015 - 2:01 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees conclude their four-game series Sunday at Yankee Stadium.

Michael Pineda looks to remain unbeaten on the season for the Yankees as he takes the mound for the start. The Orioles will counter with Bud Norris, who is seeking to lower his earned run average.

Norris enters the contest sporting a 1-3 record with a whopping 9.75 ERA. In five starts this season, Norris has only gone more than 6 2/3 innings once, and allowed no fewer than three runs in every appearance.

In his last stint on the mound against the Mets, Norris went seven innings (his longest this year) and gave up seven hits and three runs en route to his team's 3-2 defeat. He was tagged with the loss.

But Norris has been dominant against the Yankees in his career. In five starts, Norris is 4-0 with a 3.21 ERA in 28 innings pitched. He's struck out 35 Yankees in his career against eight walks, adding a 1.07 lifetime WHIP against New York.

Pineda has rocketed out of the gates for the Yankees to the tune of a 4-0 record and a 2.97 ERA. To add to that, Pineda has only walked three batters in 39 1/3 innings of work. He was dominant in his last outing, pitching eight shutout innings with five hits and six strikeouts in his team's 6-3 win over Toronto.

He's been just as impressive against Baltimore in five career starts, owning a 2-0 mark against the O's with a 2.84 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP in 31 2/3 innings. His start against Baltimore earlier this season, which still resulted in a win, yielded the most hits (nine) and most earned runs (five) Pineda has surrendered this season.

The Orioles responded from Friday night's tough loss to the Yankees by downing New York Saturday afternoon, 6-2. Jimmy Paredes homered in the third inning to open the scoring, and the O's never looked back.

"We were going to get one eventually," said Orioles center fielder Adam Jones. "You have to just keep playing the game. We've been playing good baseball, it's just been a play here or a play there from winning."

Wei-Yin Chen picked up his first victory of the season after throwing seven innings on five-hit, one-run ball, adding seven more strikeouts to his resume.

Paredes recorded a team-high three hits in the contest, while right fielder Delmon Young and left fielder Alejandro De Aza each drove in a pair of runs to aid their team's victory.

Chase Whitley was charged with the loss for New York after allowing five runs and six hits through 5 2/3 innings of work. Carlos Beltran and John Ryan Murphy each plated a runner in the loss. Mark Teixeira, who entered the night tied for third in the majors with 10 home runs, went 0-for-4 at the plate.

Alex Rodriguez was out of the Yankees' lineup on Saturday with what manager Joe Girardi described as tightness in his legs, according to the club's website. Girardi said he's hopeful Rodriguez can return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

Baltimore went ahead in the season series, three games to two.
