Rockies visit Dodgers hoping to snap 11-game slide
May 14, 2015 - 2:36 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies look to stop an 11-game slide when they open a four-game series Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine.Colorado hasn't won since April 27 and lost both meetings with the L.A. Angels, including Wednesday's 2-1 setback in 11 innings. Angels slugger Albert Pujols lifted a sacrifice fly to score Taylor Featherston for the game-winning run.
Drew Stubbs had the Rockies' lone RBI, while Corey Dickerson, Troy Tulowitzki and Nolan Arenado had two hits apiece in defeat. Colorado, which has lost seven straight meetings with the Angels, dropped its 11th straight game overall for the first time since July 4-17, 2000.
Christian Friedrich was saddled with the loss and Jordan Lyles pitched only one inning after he was hit in the hand by a line drive. X-rays were negative.
"I'm just going to try and get the swelling down, and I plan on making my next start," Lyles said. "I'm thankful it's not broken. That's the bright side."
Rockies manager Walt Weiss underwent an appendectomy and bench coach Tom Runnells took over Wednesday.
Chad Bettis will make his first appearance of the season for the Rockies Thursday and has no record and a 5.19 ERA in four career games (1 start) against the Dodgers.
The right-hander made 21 relief appearances for Colorado last season, going 0-2 with a 9.12 ERA.
Los Angeles aims to get back on track Thursday and had a five-game winning streak stopped with Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins in the finale of a three-game set.
Enrique Hernandez hit a two-run homer and Joc Pederson added a solo shot for Los Angeles, which is still 10-3 in its last 13 games. Carlos Frias pitched six innings of three-run ball for the no-decision and Adam Liberatore suffered the loss in relief.
Former Rockie Brett Anderson gets the start for L.A. Thursday and is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA in six starts. Anderson won his last time out in a 2-1 victory at Colorado on Friday and gave up one unearned run in five innings.
Anderson, who went 1-3 with a 2.91 ERA in eight starts with the Rockies last season, is 1-0 in three appearances at Dodger Stadium this season. The Dodgers are 4-2 when the left-hander takes the mound this season.
The Dodgers are 5-0 against the Rockies this season.
