Marlins win second straight, take series from Orioles
May 24, 2015 - 10:01 PM Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Koehler pitched effectively into the seventh inning as the Miami Marlins took the rubber game of a three-game interleague series with the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2, on Sunday.Koehler (3-3) set down the first 13 hitters he faced and only allowed one run on three hits for the Marlins, who had dropped eight in a row before winning a 1-0 marathon on Saturday.
Martin Prado, just hours removed from getting Miami back in the win column with the deciding hit in the 13th inning, went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Marcell Ozuna added a two-run single among his three hits.
Miguel Gonzalez (5-3) was roughed up for five runs on 10 hits and three walks over four-plus innings for Baltimore, which had won four of five before dropping two in a row.
The Marlins manufactured a run off Gonzalez in the second and third innings, added two more in the fourth and made it 5-0 on Prado's leadoff blast in the fifth.
"It was a battle," Prado said of the 12-pitch battle with Gonzalez. "He didn't make a mistake until the last pitch."
Prado singled leading off the second, moved up on Justin Bour's double down the right-field line and scored on Christian Yelich's groundout.
Miami loaded the bases without hitting the ball out of the infield an inning later. Dee Gordon and Ozuna both beat out choppers to the right side, and Giancarlo Stanton worked a one-out walk. Prado plated a run with another groundout, and Ozuna brought in two with a bases loaded single in the fourth.
Koehler stranded a pair in the fifth and limited the damage to Jimmy Paredes' sac fly after the Orioles put runners on the corners in the sixth.
He was pulled with one out in the seventh, and Brad Hand induced a 5-4-3 double-play ball off the bat of Steve Pearce to escape the bases-loaded jam.
Baltimore loaded the bags again in the eighth and only managed one run on Chris Davis' groundout. A.J. Ramos sealed the win and his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
"We've been challenged offensively," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "We know we're capable of better."
