Giants' Bumgarner takes on Phillies

Jun 6, 2015 - 1:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Madison Bumgarner tries to win his fourth straight decision when the San Francisco Giants take on the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday afternoon in the middle portion of a three-game series from Citizens Bank Park.

The 25-year-old left-hander allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no- decision against Atlanta on Sunday. Bumgarner has piled up wins over the Reds, Dodgers and Brewers during his unbeaten string. He's 2-2 with a 2.57 ERA in five career games versus the Phillies. His lone appearance in Philadelphia came last year when he threw eight shutout innings in a 3-1 Giants triumph.

Severino Gonzalez makes his fifth major league start for the Phillies. The right-hander is 2-0 over his last three outings and is coming off a no- decision against the Mets on May 25 at Citi Field. He fanned a career-high eight batters in that 4 1/3-inning performance.

On Friday, Buster Posey's seventh-inning home run proved to be the difference in the Giants' 5-4 win. Posey gave the Giants the lead for good with his ninth homer of the season, a blast to center off Phillies reliever Luis Garcia (2-2).

The Phillies had a chance to tie the score in the home seventh after Ben Revere's single had runners at the corners with one out. Hunter Strickland worked out of the jam, however, as Jeff Francoeur lifted a potential sacrifice fly to right and Revere ran Philadelphia out of the inning by getting doubled off first after he tried stealing second on the play.

"I was in a momentum slide," Revere said. "I was about to slide, then kind of turned to see the right fielder in... In that situation, everything is going so fast, him being shallow, I tried to get back."

Ryan Howard, who homered off San Francisco starter Tim Lincecum (6-3) earlier in the game, grounded into a 1-6-3 double play in the eighth after Chase Utley led off with a walk. Maikel Franco also homered off Lincecum earlier in the contest, but Sergio Romo got him to go down swinging to end the eighth.

Santiago Casilla came on in the ninth for his 16th save of the season that also ended the Giants' five-game losing streak.

"It comes down to the bullpen so many games," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "We have so much confidence in all of them."

San Francisco could get back Nori Aoki in the lineup Saturday. He was out Friday due to the flu.

The Giants have won eight of their last 11 games against the Phillies. The Phillies have lost each of their last three series to the Giants and five of their last six. The Phillies have also dropped each of their last four home sets versus the Giants.
