Pillar, Blue Jays top Astros
Jun 6, 2015 - 11:15 PM Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Pillar had two hits, a pair of RBI and a run scored as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Houston Astros 7-2 in the second of a three-game set.Drew Hutchison (5-1) allowed a run on six hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings for the Blue Jays, who won their fourth straight game on the heels of a 1-4 stretch.
"We've been doing a good job as a group of starters and we need to keep continuing to do that," Hutchison said.
Brett Oberholtzer (0-1) surrendered four runs -- two earned -- on six hits and three walks over 3 2/3 frames for Houston, which has dropped three consecutive contests.
"I felt like (Jason) Castro and I executed our pitches, just didn't go our way," Oberholtzer said.
Jonathan Villar smacked a solo homer among his two hits in defeat.
The Blue Jays plated a run in the first and three more in the second to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
Jose Bautista worked a two-out walk in the opening frame, stole second and came home on Edwin Encarnacion's base hit to right.
Danny Valencia led off the second with a double and runners were on the corners when Dioner Navarro reached on Marwin Gonzalez's fielding error. Pillar plated Valencia with a single to center and Pillar and Navarro each moved up a base on Ryan Goins' sacrifice bunt.
Navarro scored on Jose Reyes' base hit to left and Josh Donaldson pushed across Pillar with a sacrifice fly to right for Toronto's four-run cushion.
Jose Altuve's broken-bat RBI single to center got Houston on the board in the third, but the Blue Jays got the run back in the fifth as Pillar's run-scoring double extended their advantage to 5-1.
Villar's one-out solo shot into the right field seats in the eighth cut the deficit to 5-2.
Justin Smoak's two-run double in the eighth capped the scoring.
