Giants go for sweep of Mets
Jun 11, 2015 - 11:07 AM (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Lincecum eyes his sixth win in his last seven decisions on Thursday when the San Francisco Giants try to complete a three- game sweep of the New York Mets at Citi Field.Lincecum picked up a win on Friday in Philadelphia, as he allowed four runs and five hits in six innings to run his record to 6-3 to go along with a 3.29 ERA.
"The guys kept me in the game," Lincecum said. "I just wanted to give the team a chance to win. The guys put together some good at-bats for me."
Lincecum could stay in the win column tonight, as he owns a 6-1 lifetime mark against the Mets with a 2.88 ERA in 11 starts.
New York, meanwhile, will rely on lefty Jon Niese, who is 0-4 in his last five starts. Niese fell for the sixth time in his last seven decisions on Friday in Arizona, as he allowed three runs and six hits in six innings, dropping him to 3-6 on the season with a 4.43 ERA.
"Jon had really good stuff tonight," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "He worked both sides of the plate much more effectively. He used his changeup much more effectively. He threw some breaking balls. I thought he threw the ball well. We just couldn't get him any runs to work with."
Niese has faced the Giants seven times (6 starts) and is 1-3 with a 2.98 ERA.
San Francisco followed up Chris Heston's no-hitter by roughing up Matt Harvey on Wednesday, as Buster Posey drove in three runs and the Giants rolled, 8-5.
Nori Aoki went 4-for-5 with two runs scored while Brandon Belt hit a two-run homer and Joe Panik and Justin Maxwell added solo shots for the Giants, who have won four of their last five.
"It helps knowing that there's not one single person in this lineup that thinks that they have to carry the load," Belt said. "You know if you don't get the job done, somebody behind you will."
Tim Hudson (4-5) didn't fare nearly as well as Heston, but was backed by solid offensive support as he was touched for four runs on eight hits over five-plus innings.
Wilmer Flores drove in two while Lucas Duda, Eric Campbell and Juan Lagares each posted an RBI for the Mets, who have dropped four of five.
Harvey (6-4) gave up seven runs on nine hits in six innings to take the loss.
"Everything was all over the place," Harvey said. "I'm not putting people away when I need to."
The Giants went 6-1 versus the Mets last season, winning three of four in New York. They have won 13 of their past 17 on the road in this series.
