Blazing hot! Portland puts streak on the line vs. Knicks

Nov 25, 2013 - 3:50 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Two teams headed in opposite directions square off Monday in the Rose City, where the Portland Trail Blazers will put their 10- game winning streak on the line versus the New York Knicks.

Portland not only posted its 10th win in a row in Saturday's 113-101 decision at Golden State, but also prevailed for the seventh consecutive time on the road. LaMarcus Aldridge turned in an impressive effort with 30 points, 21 rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks.

Aldridge also came to the aid of his teammate Joel Freeland, who took an elbow to the throat by Warriors center Andrew Bogut. Several players were involved in the second half scuffle, as Draymond Green was ejected for the Warriors and both Wesley Matthews and Mo Williams were tossed for Portland.

Bogut, Aldridge and Freeland were assessed technical fouls.

That's when the Blazers turned it on and outscored Golden State, 42-22 following the fracas with 3:42 left in the third quarter.

"Our guys came together and our guys played tough," Aldridge said on how the team responded after the incident. "I thought that we all came together, put it all on our defense and became more aggressive offensively. Our guys took the challenge of trying to be more physical down low and it worked out for us."

Aldridge is the first player since David Robinson in 1992 to finish with at least 30 points, 21 rebounds, three steals and three blocks and the first player in franchise history to log at least 30 points and 20 rebounds.

Matthews scored 23 points before his ejection and reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard had 20 points and nine assists. Nicolas Batum was the other Blazer to score in double digits (14).

Portland hasn't lost since Nov. 5 versus Houston and the 10-game winning streak is the longest since a 13-game run from Dec. 3-30, 2007. The last time the Trail Blazers started 13-2 was back in 1999-00.

After the Northwest Division-leading Blazers, who have won four in a row at home and own a 5-1 record as the host, entertain the Knicks, they will visit Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers.

New York opened a four-game road trip along the eastern seaboard Saturday and dropped a 98-89 decision to the Washington Wizards. Carmelo Anthony scored a team-best 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, J.R. Smith netted 15 off the bench and Amare Stoudemire posted 12 in a reserve role.

Andrea Bargnani was the other Knick to score in double figures (11).

The Knicks struggled to slow down Wizards guard John Wall, who pumped in 31 points and handed out seven assists. Wall had 37 points in a loss at Toronto Friday night.

"He's playing well," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said of Wall. "I like everything about him. He had an awesome night last night and came back tonight and duplicated it."

New York duplicated what has been the last five games -- all losses. It is 3-9 on the season and at the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Knicks will try to regroup on the rest of this trek against the Blazers, Clippers and Nuggets, and are 2-3 away from Madison Square Garden. The Knicks have played worse at home as evidenced by their 1-6 ledger.

The Knicks have scored 100 or more points just three times this season and have failed to reach the century mark in scoring over their past four games.

In injury news for New York, guard Raymond Felton (hip) is questionable against the Blazers and hasn't played since Nov.16 versus Atlanta. He is posting an average of 11.1 points and 5.2 assists this season.

Portland took both meetings with New York a season ago and has won 11 of the last 16 matchups between the teams. New York has lost 10 of its last 12 trips to Portland.
