Three of the Knicks recent setbacks came on the road, although two of their three wins this season came away from Madison Square Garden. The Knicks have one more stop on this current four-game trek - Denver on Friday - before returning home.
"It's a tough situation," said Carmelo Anthony. "It's okay to be positive, think positive, but it's tough times right now. Only way we're going to do it, is do it together."
The Knicks fell behind by 16 after the first quarter, but closed it to seven in the fourth quarter. Portland had enough to get its 11th consecutive victory.
Anthony led the Knicks with 34 points and 15 rebounds, followed by 16 from Andrea Bargnani. Beno Udrih, who is starting in place of an injured Raymond Felton, chipped in 13.
Kenyon Martin and Amare Stoudemire had 10 apiece. Iman Shumpert had zero points, zero rebounds and zero assists in 23:16 of action.
The Clippers have won two straight since coming back from a loss in Oklahoma City. The Clips knocked off the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls, with the most recent victory a 121-82 demolishing of the undermanned Bulls.
L.A. held Chicago to 30 points in the second half and just nine in the fourth quarter.
Jared Dudley led the way with 21 points, followed by 19 from J.J. Redick.
After having his streak of consecutive games with 10-plus points and 10-plus assists snapped at 13, Chris Paul returned to that form with 16 points and season-high tying 17 assists.
Blake Griffin had 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Darren Collison chipped in 14.
Los Angeles' other double-figure scorer on Sunday was Antawn Jamison. The veteran forward made his season debut and he finished with 11 points in 15 minutes.
"I have just been holding him and I told him about two days ago that I was going to go to him in one of these two games, but not in both because I do not want to play him in back-to-backs," Rivers said of Jamison.
The Clippers won both of last season's matchups with New York and 11 of the last 16 meetings between the two teams. The Clips have taken 11 of the last 13 in Los Angeles.
