Blazers invade MSG to face Knicks
Feb 5, 2014 - 3:28 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers will try to get their first win of this eastern road trip Wednesday night when they head to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks. The Blazers are sputtering a bit, losers in three of their last four. They are on game two of a four-game eastern swing and have dropped four in a row as the visitor.
Portland will also visit the Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves on this sojourn.
On Monday, John Wall and Trevor Ariza got the Washington Wizards over .500 for the first time in almost four years as they prevailed, 100-90 over the Blazers.
Portland trailed by 17 early in the fourth and made a run, but came up short. The Blazers didn't make a shot over the last 1:12 of the game.
"We've just got to stay with it and understand that rough patches are a part of this league," said All-Star guard Damian Lillard, who ended with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Fellow All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge donated 20 points, 10 boards and six assists. Nicolas Batum had 18 and Robin Lopez scored 12. The bench has been a huge problem of late as Portland's four subs combined for six points.
The Knicks did what they have done all season, which is go on a winning streak, then drop some games. After a four-game winning run, the Knicks have lost their last two.
After a home setback Saturday night to the Miami Heat, the Knicks gave the Milwaukee Bucks their ninth win of the season Monday, falling 101-98 at the Bradley Center.
Brandon Knight buried a 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left to lift the Bucks.
Carmelo Anthony, who hit a trey from the top of the key to tie it with 19.4 seconds left, led all scorers with 36 points -- including 17 in the fourth quarter -- and J.R. Smith chipped in with a season-high 30 points on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
No other Knicks player scored in double-figures.
"We just couldn't get the stops," said Knicks coach Mike Woodson. "We just couldn't get the stops when we needed it. (For) 48 minutes you have to compete and any team can beat you. This is a game I thought we could have won and we let this one get away."
The Blazers beat the Knicks by 12 in Portland on Nov. 25 and have taken three straight in this series. Portland is 5-2 in its last seven at MSG.
