Knicks search for answers in New Orleans

(SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Knicks will continue to try and salvage their season on this long road trip which takes them to New Orleans Wednesday night to face the Pelicans.

The Knicks began a four-game southern road trip with a five-point loss on Tuesday down in Memphis.

The Knicks battled back from a 13-point halftime deficit before ultimately being dealt a third consecutive loss and a sixth in seven games.

Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 19 of his 23 points after the break to lead the comeback effort. Carmelo Anthony, fresh off a dazzling 30-point effort in Sunday's All-Star Game, finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for New York.

The Knicks took a five-point lead with 2:39 to go, but Mike Conley, who returned from a seven-game absence with a sprained ankle, scored nine points in the final five minutes. Memphis closed out the contest on a 13-3 run to prevail.

"I thought we played great in the second half," said Knicks head coach Mike Woodson. "We were [15 points] down, we just kept chipping away. We just couldn't make the plays that we needed to."

The Knicks will visit the Orlando Magic on Friday and the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday.

The Pelicans play for the first time since hosting the All-Star Game Sunday night at Smoothie King Center.

Anthony Davis made his All-Star debut Sunday night and scored 10 points in just under 10 minutes of action.

New Orleans closed the first half with a 102-98 victory in Milwaukee one week ago. That victory halted a two-game slide, but the Pelicans have won two straight at home.

Eric Gordon led seven Pelicans in double figures with 21 points, Brian Roberts added 17 and Alexis Ajinca added 16 with nine rebounds in New Orleans' victory.

"B-Rob (Roberts) was really great in the fourth quarter," praised New Orleans head coach Monty Williams. "Sensational in pick and roll."

Tyreke Evans and Davis each provided 12 points for New Orleans, while Luke Babbitt added 10 off the bench.

The Pelicans beat the Knicks by four in Madison Square Garden on Dec. 1. New York has taken four straight in the Big Easy, but is only 8-15 as a visitor this season.
