Nets beat Magic
Apr 14, 2014 - 4:18 AM Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Mirza Teletovic came off the bench and scored a game-high 20 points and added six rebounds to help the Brooklyn Nets to a 97-88 win over the Orlando Magic at the Barclays Center.Joe Johnson and Mason Plumlee netted 17 apiece, with Plumlee adding 11 rebounds for the Nets, who have won four of six. Deron Williams tallied 16 points and five assists and Paul Pierce scored 10 points and grabbed five boards.
"We've got to try to fine-tune and keep this chemistry that we have going into the postseason," Johnson said.
Brooklyn holds a two-game lead for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race over the Wizards.
Tobias Harris totaled 18 points and seven rebounds and Victor Oladipo scored 14 for the Magic, who have lost five of seven. Andrew Nicholson had 12 points and seven rebounds and Kyle O'Quinn and Maurice Harkless scored 10 points apiece in defeat.
"They were shooting the ball really well and we just didn't adjust and stop them," Harris said.
The Nets trailed by five, 57-52, 3 1/2 minutes into the third before an 18-2 tear staked them an 11-point lead with 3 1/2 on the clock. The teams exchanged scores through the rest of the quarter and the Nets led 79-70 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.
The Nets pushed their lead to 12 points, 87-75, with 6 1/2 remaining, however, six straight from Orlando cut its deficit to six points a minute later.
Brooklyn then put the game away with a 10-3 burst.
Earlier, in the second period the teams stayed within three points of one another except on three occasions. The largest margin was six points, 44-38, for Orlando with 3 1/2 left in the first half.
The first quarter was a tight opening 12 minutes, featuring three lead changes and one tie. The largest lead in the frame eight points in favor of the Magic. The Nets, however, pulled back within three to trail, 28-25, heading into the second.
Brooklyn trailed, 49-46, at the end of the first half, despite shooting 50 percent (19-for-38) from the floor. Orlando countered by making 54.1 percent (20-for-37) of its field goals.
Game Notes
The Magic have now lost nine straight on the road ... Orlando has had five-or- more players score in double figures 52 times this season ... Brooklyn has now won 23 of its 26 last home games.
