Lakers make quick turnaround in Houston

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Lakers collected their second win of the season, but things don't get any easier when they roll into the Toyota Center to face the Houston Rockets Wednesday.

The Lakers just earned their first road victory of the season Tuesday night with a 114-109 triumph over the Atlanta Hawks.

Kobe Bryant scored 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting to lead the Lakers over the Hawks, a team that was a perfect 4-0 at home this season. Bryant surpassed the 32,000 point plateau with his final jumper. He now trails Michael Jordan for third on the all-time list by 291 points.

"When we really needed (Bryant) to step up, he was able to do that as usual," Lakers head coach Byron Scott said. "(He) made some big shots for us."

A 54-percent shooting effort by LA, the return of Nick Young and a wide open 3-point miss by Pero Antic just before the buzzer provided the difference.

Young, who had been sidelined due to a torn ligament in his right thumb, had 17 points off the bench, while Carlos Boozer added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Lin finished with 15 points and 10 assists and Jordan Hill added a double-double of his own with 18 points and 10 boards.

The Lakers announced forward Ryan Kelly suffered a hamstring tear and will be out of action for six weeks.

LA will finish off its three-game road trip Friday night in Dallas.

The Rockets suffered their second loss of the season Monday thanks to a 119-93 pasting to the Memphis Grizzlies at FedEx Forum.

Trevor Ariza paced Houston with 16 points and Dwight Howard chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds in the setback. The Rockets have lost seven of their last eight in Memphis.

"They just beat the hell out of us," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said.

James Harden was held to six points on 1-for-8 shooting and 0-for-4 shooting from long range.

The Rockets led the league in opponents' scoring prior to the contest, but fell to second after allowing 119 points. Memphis assumed the mantle atop the NBA and forced 21 Houston turnovers.

The Grizzlies also shot 53.5 percent from the floor.

Houston begins a five-game homestand Wednesday with Dallas, the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Clippers all visiting the Toyota Center.

The Rockets beat the Lakers by 18 on Oct. 30 and have won four in a row in this series. Houston has won five of the last six meetings at home against the Lakers.
