Hawks try for new streak, host Wizards

Feb 4, 2015 - 2:42 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The franchise-record winning streak is over for the Atlanta Hawks, so they'll try to start a new one Wednesday versus the Washington Wizards at Philips Arena.

The Hawks' 19-game run came to a halt with Monday's 115-100 loss in the Big Easy to the New Orleans Pelicans. Anthony Davis had 29 points and 13 rebounds, while Eric Gordon scored 20 points and Tyreke Evans added 15 and 12 assists.

Atlanta was led by Jeff Teague's 21 points and Paul Millsap added 15 for Atlanta, which shot 44.9 percent and made only 7-of-22 3-pointers. New Orleans had a 32-22 lead after the first quarter and won every period.

"We've got a lot of season left," Millsap said. "Nineteen games, that's good. We lost one ... 19-1 now. So it's just regrouping. We can't let one loss turn into two losses."

The Hawks had a pair of two-game slides in November and suffered their first defeat since Dec. 26 versus the Milwaukee Bucks. They are 33-3 in the last 36 games and will try to extend their home winning streak to 11 games. Atlanta has a 23-3 mark at Philips Arena.

Golden State will pay a visit to Atlanta on Friday.

Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll (Achilles) is questionable Wednesday and is averaging 11.6 points per game.

Washington will play back-to-back games on the road against Atlanta and Charlotte, and is 13-10 away from home.

The Wizards have lost a season high-tying three straight games and fell to 2-5 in the last seven with Monday's 92-88 setback versus the Hornets. Bradley Beal had 18 points and 11 rebounds, John Wall added 16 points to go along with 10 assists and Kris Humphries posted 13 points off the bench.

"We've got to band together when things aren't going well," said Humphries. "One guy can't win a game. We have to pull together and have each other's backs."

Washington hasn't lost four in a row since Dec. 6-14, 2013.

Wall (migraine/foot) is probable Wednesday and needs one assist for 500 this season. He is averaging 20.0 points and 11.2 assists in his last six games with four double-doubles in that stretch.

Beal is posting an average of 17.7 points in his past six contests.

The Wizards are 0-2 against the Southeast-rival Hawks and the two teams will meet again April 12 in DC. Washington is a miserable 1-12 in the past 13 visits to Philips Arena.
