Knicks, Magic tangle in Orlando
Apr 11, 2015 - 1:34 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Two teams playing out the string with no playoff hopes square off Saturday night when the New York Knicks visit the Amway Center to face the Orlando Magic. The Knicks own the worst mark in the NBA at 15-64, but they're on pace to have the most ping-pong balls in the draft lottery. The Magic have the fifth-worst record in the league at 25-54.
New York has lost two in a row after a victory Sunday over the Philadelphia 76ers. Both of the Knicks' setbacks during this slide came in the confines of Madison Square Garden, but they are on the road for their next two.
On Friday, the Knicks fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 99-91.
Langston Galloway was one bright spot in the lowly Knicks' 11th loss in 12 games, finishing with 20 points. Lance Thomas added 16 on 6-of-6 shooting, while Shane Larkin finished with 14.
Jason Smith chipped in 11 off the bench, followed by 10 points and 11 rebounds from Lou Amundson.
"That's what we're going to continue to do is just play hard and try to get wins, regardless of our record," Galloway said.
The Knicks committed 26 turnovers that the Bucks converted into 33 points.
The Magic had their three-game winning streak snapped Friday thanks to a 101-99 home loss to the Toronto Raptors.
A game after hitting the go-ahead shot in the final seconds, Victor Oladipo was poised to be the hero again with a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left. At the other end, however, DeMar DeRozan drove the baseline and dished to Lou Williams for a triple with nine seconds left, to give the Raptors the victory.
Orlando was trying to win four straight games for the first time since Dec. 2012. Four players scored 16-plus points, led by Oladipo's 19. Evan Fournier managed 18 off the bench, and Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic had 16 apiece.
"We played well as a team, so this loss stings us," said Harris.
A 9-0 run by the Magic in the fourth gave them a 94-90 lead with 2:40 to play, but Toronto responded with the next six to go ahead. After a timeout, Vucevic collected an offensive rebound off a Harris 3 and hit his second putback attempt. At the other end, DeRozan's layup put the Raptors up 98-96 and forced another Orlando timeout.
Out of the stoppage, Oladipo received the inbounds pass, took advantage of the cushion given to him by Kyle Lowry and pulled up for 3. On the ensuing possession, DeRozan attacked the basket and kicked the ball out to Williams in the corner for the winning shot. Oladipo then missed a shot as time expired.
Saturday's game will be the home finale for the Magic, who visit the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets to finish out the season.
The Magic have won two of three meetings this season versus the Knicks and two straight in Orlando.
