North Carolina State's Yow to miss another game
Dec 31, 2008 - 6:40 PM RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- North Carolina State women's basketball coach Kay Yow once again will not be on the bench for Wednesday's contest against Georgetown. This is the third consecutive game that the 66-year-old Yow has missed due to an extremely low energy level - something that has lingered for the past 10 days.
Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and is susceptible to cold weather, a condition that forced her to miss the Wolfpack's 78-58 victory at Columbia on December 22.
She also decided to skip Monday's game against Jacksonville State after speaking with athletic director Lee Fowler and her oncologist, Dr. Mark Graham.
"My energy level is still not where it needs to be to complete all of what is expected as the head coach of this program," Yow said Monday.
Yow status for Sunday's contest with South Carolina likely will not be known until the day of the game.
Yow currently ranks as the fifth-winningest active NCAA Division I women's basketball coach.
