Ramo, Flames shut out Sharks
Nov 27, 2014 - 6:24 AM San Jose, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Karri Ramo made 32 saves for his third career shutout, leading the Calgary Flames to a 2-0 win over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night.Jiri Hudler scored both goals in the Flames' fifth win in seven games.
The only one they needed came with 2:44 left in the second period, when he beat Antti Niemi stick-side with a wrister in the slot to make it 1-0.
Hudler added an empty-netter in the final minute of the third period, his 10th goal of the season.
Ramo had 11 saves in both the first and second period and made 10 in the third for the shutout in his ninth appearance this season.
The Sharks, coming off back-to-back shootout losses to Florida and Arizona, dropped their fourth game in a row. They are 0-1-2 on a six-game homestand with just five total goals in the three outings.
"It's disappointing. We want to win, we want to get out of this," said Sharks center Joe Pavelski "The harder we try the worse it's going."
Niemi faced only 18 shots, turning aside nine in the first period to help keep the game scoreless. He faced six in the second and three in the third.
The most interesting San Jose player sat on the bench all night as Niemi's backup.
The Sharks signed San Jose resident Ryan Lowe to a goaltending contract after Troy Grosenick was injured in practice on Tuesday and unable to dress for the game.
Lowe, who last played professionally in Australia, was signed to a "goaltender professional tryout agreement," the Sharks said. The 31-year-old was dressed for the game.
