Blue Jackets rematch with 'Canes seeking to extend win streak

Mar 15, 2015 - 1:37 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Columbus Blue Jackets will try to extend their longest winning streak in three months versus the team it began against as they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday evening.

The Blue Jackets have won each of their past three games, a span that started with a 4-3 shootout win over the hosting Hurricanes on Tuesday. They followed up with Thursday's triumph over the Detroit Red Wings before topping the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 in a shootout the following night.

Columbus has won four of its last five on the heels of a seven-game slide and its current three-game win streak is the longest for the club since it took seven straight from Dec. 1-16.

Alexander Wennberg scored the lone shootout goal in Friday's win over Edmonton, while Scott Hartnell scored in regulation to reach the 20-goal mark for the eighth time in his career. Mark Dano, Cam Atkinson and Artem Anisimov also tallied and Sergei Bobrovsky came up with 31 saves.

"It's fun playing out there. Even though it's a tough game, I felt we battled well out there," said Wennberg, who had two assists in regulation.

Columbus halted a five-game slide at home despite forward Brandon Dubinsky sitting out a second game in a row due to illness. He is questionable for this game.

The Blue Jackets wrap their four-game season series with the Hurricanes having lost the first two encounters before the win earlier this week. Ryan Johansen had the lone tally in the tiebreaker as he skated in and out-waited Cam Ward before sliding the puck past the netminder's pad.

Bobrovsky then stopped Jeff Skinners attempt to seal the outcome and improve to 6-3-0 lifetime versus Carolina with a 2.18 goals against average and .930 save percentage in nine meetings.

Hartnell had two goals for Columbus, while Justin Faulk notched a goal and two assists -- all in the first period -- for the Hurricanes. Ward made 29 saves.

Carolina has won its last two trips to Columbus.

The Hurricanes hit the road following a 1-3-1 homestand, losing the finale of that residency 2-0 to the Florida Panthers on Saturday.

"I thought we would have had a better homestand, to be honest with you," said Hurricanes coach Bill Peters. "Obviously we wanted more points and more success at home. Now we know what we're up against and what we have to work with."

Ward stopped 20-of-21 shots for the Hurricanes.

Carolina is likely to start Anton Khudobin in net today. He is 2-1-1 in four meetings with the Blue Jackets, posting a 2.23 GAA and .929 save percentage.
