San Jose (2-0-0) at Los Angeles (0-1-0), 9:00 pm EDT
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings already have the opportunity to correct their mistakes against a division rival.
Looking to rebound from a loss in their first game on the road, the Kings will face the San Jose Sharks for the second consecutive day in their home opener on Sunday.
In order to level its record, Los Angeles will have to stymie the league's best road team over the past two seasons. The Sharks are 53-24-5 away from the HP Pavilion since 2006-07, giving them seven more wins than the Detroit Red Wings in that span.
Saturday's 3-1 loss was a rude awakening to the 2008-09 campaign for Los Angeles, which finished in the cellar in the Pacific Division last season and no higher than fourth for the third straight time. Promising left wing Alexander Frolov scored the lone goal for the Kings, but it was a good sign their budding talent is continuing to grow.
As another blossoming star the team will count on throughout its rebuilding stages, Anze Kopitar signed a seven-year contract extension on Saturday.
Kopitar led the team with a career-high 77 points and 45 assists last season. He also was second in goals with a career-best 32 in 2007-08. However, the Sharks held him in check on Saturday.
Devin Setoguchi scored his second goal in as many games for San Jose, which improved to 49-40-10 all-time against Los Angeles.
