PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers go for their first win of the season on Wednesday, when they host the San Jose Sharks.
Philadelphia is the last remaining winless team in the NHL after the Tampa Bay Lightning (1-2-3) finally broke through with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday.
It has been a struggle for last season's Eastern Conference runner-up, which has allowed a conference-worst 22 goals through five games.
The Flyers blew a pair of two-goal leads against the Sharks on Saturday as San Jose pulled out a 5-4 overtime victory at home on defenseman Dan Boyle's power-play tally in the extra session. Philadelphia was outshot, 45-17, in the loss.
San Jose will try and complete the home-and-home sweep and continue its fast start to the season.
The Sharks, who own the best record in the Western Conference, have allowed an average of 2.00 goals per contest.
The runner-up for the Vezina Trophy last season, Evgeni Nabokov has yielded four goals in each of the past two games after allowing four tallies in the first three contests combined.
Daniel Briere leads the Flyers with six points, while Simon Gagne - who has notched a point in all five games - tops the club with four goals. For San Jose, Jonathan Cheechoo has recorded club highs of four tallies and six points.
