Revs edge Impact for fifth straight win

Sep 14, 2014 - 1:41 AM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Revolution extended their winning streak to five games on Saturday at Gillette Stadium as Kelyn Rowe and Lee Nguyen scored two minutes apart to lift the club to a 2-1 triumph over the Montreal Impact.

Callum Mallace scored his first MLS goal for Montreal in the 13th minute, but Rowe equalized 10 minutes later and Nguyen followed with his 14th goal of the campaign to keep the Revs in third place in the Eastern Conference.

Some good work from Jack McInerney in the 13th led to the Impact goal as he teed up Mallace for a simple finish to put Montreal in front.

But Montreal goalkeeper Troy Perkins should have done better 10 minutes later when Rowe's dipping effort from 25 yards managed to elude him and find its way into the back of the net, leveling the match at 1-1.

Two minutes later, the Revs snatched the lead when Jermaine Jones chipped a ball to Charlie Davies, allowing him to flick it into the penalty area for Nguyen to finish off the play with a composed chip.

The Impact's Eric Miller came within inches of leveling the match in the 53rd when his shot beat New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth but struck the post.

And the visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 63rd as Krzysztof Krol collected a second yellow card for a foul on Rowe.

Nguyen came close to adding to his total in the 64th when he beat Perkins, only for Miller to clear the ball off the goal line.
